It's time...

to get a move on :)

It's been 3 months since my last entry here, and before that it took almost 6 months to write that entry. The reason : We've all been busy.

I'm also going to try and be more coherent here in my ramblings. [It was pointed out to me by my-almost-one-day-sister-in-law, that my posts tend to make people think I'm on something... herbal perhaps ? ].

So the year is 8 months old (if you want to be technical, not truly 8, but for a change I'm not being the technical irritant I used to be. I bet Dave won't believe that yet.) and a lot of things have happened.

Grea and myself are 3 months short of being back in SA for a full year now, something which makes one think, and in my case a lot. After having had a good week of holiday up north in the country ( thanks again to my-almost-on-day-sister-in-law for all the lifts and having us in her nice and warm flat over the two wkends we were there ), we've both come back to Cape Town rested and ready for the other half of the year. Work has had me hitting the road running, but I'm glad to say that this time I am scaling things back a bit and giving myself more time and hoping to learn from my mistakes. [all that being in regards to setting time lines]. I believe I might have found a strategy that will work for me, the project managers and owners and my direct boss and possibly the MD.

On a personal front : I'm going to be investing a lot more time and effort into helping my parents out a bit.

29 years they've stood by me, trying to educate me on family values and trying to make the most of a very rebelious son ( I'm very very stubborn I am) and they have both given the three of us ( myself, my brother and sister ) the best years of their lives.

They've worked really hard at making sure we never wanted for the important things in life. We never went to bed hungry or cold, were never short on clothes and the odd pocket money here and there to go have some fun, and have always felt loved.

I've decided to put my Saturdays for the rest of the year ( where possible, like when we aren't at weddings and the likes ) towards being at my parents place, helping out, first to get the bakkie up and running again ( which, if I'm honest, I don't think should take longer than a month or so of Saturdays), and then starting to help fix up my parents place.

It's not going to be a quick project, and I'm hoping that this also helps me to learn how to take on longer projects, where the outcome might only be seen in a few months time, rather than the mad rush I'm used to, in always trying to finish everything in a week or two. I want to start taking the long view, pick up my head a little and look further into the future, I think it's important to look at it that way. Hopefully that will also help me to see the enormous potential South Africa still has, even amid the vast amount of people who are leaving our country, and to find a niche in that to prosper in, (the potential that is, not the people leaving), so that I too can become part of the solution, rather than the big mouth on the sideline about all the problems we have.

I hope all is well out there.
I hope to write some more over the coming months, for the moment I'm setting a goal of one post a month, hopefully fortnightly.

[Z] out.

Good post dude. Was scanning through it and the bit about your folks, and "the long view" stood out. Wierd, how I too came to that conclusion! Evolution. I would love to take on a project like that, with my folks, for very much the same reason. Never thought of just block booking my time!

Inspirational, thank you.

Hey G.

Excellent man. Sorry for only moderating your comment lately, haven't been looking at the blog that often. Something I want to pick up more again. Glad you did comment though, made me read the post again, three months down the line from that post and things are going well. The bakkie has taken a lot longer than expected however, still busy with it really. But in due course all will be sorted.

Hope all is good that side in the UK sir :)
